He won't praise BHARAT MATA...

MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: Rejecting RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's suggestion for infusing patriotism, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has said he will not chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' even if a knife is put to his throat.

Owaisi's assertion days after Bhagwat said the new generation needs to be taught to chant slogans hailing mother India drew sharp condemnation from RSS, BJP and Shiv Sena while he stood by his statement made at a public rally.

"I don't chant that slogan. What are you going to do, Bhagwat sahab," the Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad said at the rally in Udgir tehsil of Latur district in Maharashtra on Sunday.

"I won't utter that (slogan) even if you put a knife to my throat," Owaisi said, amid loud applause from the crowd.

"Nowhere in the Constitution it says that one should say 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'," Owaisi said.

On March 3, Bhagwat had said the new generation needs to be taught to chant slogans hailing mother India, comments which came against the backdrop of the row over alleged anti-India sloganeering on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus.

"Now the time has come when we have to tell the new generation to chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' (hail mother India). It should be real, spontaneous and part of all-round development of the youth," the RSS chief had said.

Asked by reporters to comment on the condemnation of his statement, Owaisi said he stood by it, asserting there is no violation of any law or Constitution in what he said.

"Whom is he (Bhagwat) trying to frighten? He can't force his ideology on others," the AIMIM leader said.

Senior Shiv Sena leader and minister Ramdas Kadam said Owaisi should go to Pakistan if he doesn't want to say 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'.

"I have asked Maharashtra government to take action against him," Kadam said.

BJP leader and Finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said the local administration will examine Owaisi's statement and the government will then take appropriate action.

Ratan Sharda, author and RSS ideologue, accused Owaisi of playing politics on national feelings and asked, "If you say I love my mother then what is the problem."

BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh also accused Owaisi of trying to provoke nationalist sentiments, describing his statement as "highly condemnable".

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said statements like that made by Owaisi should be "completely avoided".

Interestingly, Samajwadi Party MLA in Mumbai Abu Azmi said Owaisi should say 'Bharat Mata ki jai', but added that "parties like BJP and Shiv Sena are indulging in politics over the issue".(Source:TOI)

Invisible mobile charging

Say good-bye to tangled wires and misplaced charging cables. Spanish start-up MiniBatt presented a smartphone charging system that can be installed in any piece of furniture, regardless of the material. To charge a device, you just have to put it on top of a desk, chair or table. The company hopes to convince furniture makers to incorporate the charger into its designs.

The device consists of an 80 mm disk which can be placed under any table or surface of wood, plastic or glass, plugged into an electricity outlet, making it invisible to users. To charge the mobile phone battery, you just need to place it on the table, on top of a sticker indicating the charging zone. Thus, the phone does not need to connect to any device nor does it need direct contact with the charger.

"We're beginning to sell the product to furniture makers, restaurants, offices, stations and waiting area managers, in other words, any space where it might be useful for a user to have a charger handy," said MiniBatt's managing director, Jordi Gilberga.

The company behind this charger was originally dedicated to manufacturing automobile components. In 2012 there was a generational change in the management structure and the firm began to work in the area of portable energy banks that can give power to flat batteries in vehicles(IBNlive).

Rahul Gandhi,Arvind Kejriwal and others booked under sedition charges...

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury are among nine persons who have been booked on sedition charges in connection with the JNU row, police said today.

An FIR has been registered against Rahul, Kejriwal, Yechury, Congress leaders Anand Sharma and Ajay Maken, CPI leader D Raja, JD(U) Spokesperson KC Tyagi, JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and JNU research scholar Umar Khalid on the order of a court here, based on a complaint filed by lawyer Janardhan Goud.

"It is a court-referred matter. Following the court's directive, a case under section 124A of the IPC (sedition) has been registered yesterday against nine persons, including Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Sitaram Yechury, JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and others," Saroornagar Police Station Inspector S Lingaiah said today.

The court has posted the matter for hearing on March 4.

In his petition, Goud said Rahul and other leaders, despite being aware that Delhi Police had registered a case against Kanhaiya on charge of sedition had visited JNU campus and knowingly supported them and hence it "amounted to sedition".

Kanhaiya and Khalid, who have earlier been arrested in Delhi on sedition charge, have also been booked here on the same charge.

Goud had filed a complaint in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate here on Thursday, seeking its direction to police for registration of a case against Kanhaiya and Khalid for allegedly raising anti-India and pro-Afzal Guru slogans on JNU campus and others.

In his petition, Goud said he has every right to question those who are indulging in "anti-national activities and also those who are encouraging anti-nationals in the name of solidarity for those who are facing criminal charges under section 124(A) of IPC."

Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail hearing to continue on Monday

Meanwhile, Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail hearing is going to continue tomorrow. The Delhi High Court is likely to resume tomorrow hearing on a bail plea of JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar, arrested in a sedition case for allegedly raising anti-India slogans in the university campus. Justice Pratibha Rani, who had on February 24 deferred the hearing till February 29 after Delhi police informed the bench that it will seek his further custodial interrogation, will resume the hearing tomorrow.

The hearing assumes significance as the police is likely to apprise the bench about the ongoing investigation during which it had taken Kanhaiya to one day custody to confront him with two other JNU students and arrested accused -- Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya. Umar and Anirban had surrendered before police late on February 23 night.

Both the accused are in police custody till February 29. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Kanhaiya, had earlier contended that as per the status report filed by Delhi Police there was no evidence of any anti-India slogans being raised by his client. Kanhaiya, who was arrested on February 12, was in police custody till February 17 and was later remanded in judicial custody till March 2 amid violence at the court premises during the remand proceedings.

He was taken to one-day police custody on February 25 and was thereafter remanded back in judicial custody for two weeks on February 26. In its status report filed before the high court, police had alleged Kanhaiya had not only participated in the event in JNU campus on February 9 where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised but had "actually organised" the programme. It had claimed that besides Kanhaiya and other accused, some "foreign elements" were also present during the event and they had covered their faces to hide their identity.

"The investigation agency is looking for linkage between the petitioner (Kanhaiya), his co-accused and the said foreign elements who were hiding their identity by covering their faces," the police had said while opposing his bail plea.(DNA India)

Father writes his son's Exam

AGRA: The fear and phobia of mathematics - considered by many students as one of the most dreaded subject, was clearly visible on Tuesday. The height of the anxiety was caught red handed by flying squad when they found parents answering the question paper in place of their children, seniors appearing for their juniors and in Mathura, a benevolent management of school, virtually opened the floodgates, thereby allowing students to engage in mass copying.

In Shri M K T Girls Inter College, Rahlai, Agra, a man in his late 30s was caught red while appearing in mathematics paper for his son by flying squad led by district inspector of schools Jitendra Kumar Yadav.

Speaking to TOI, DIOS Agra, Yadav said, "We were surprised to see an aged man sitting among young students. He was hesitant to reply on our queries. When we cross checked the admit card with roll attendance sheet, we found that he was father of the candidate."

Identified as Ratiram, the man was appearing for his son Ramvilash. When contacted, Ratiram said, "My son is weak in maths and I wanted to help him."

After the incident, DIOS ordered school principal to file an FIR against both son and father for cheating and impersonating in the examination.

In another case, with an intention of rendering friendly philanthropy to their pals in board exam during mathematics paper, Brijesh Yadav and Hari Singh, both XII passed out were found appearing for their juniors in Shri Asharam inter college, Jarar of Bah area.

Talking to TOI, Santosh Dixit, principal of the inter college said, "We have caught two boys from two different classrooms, who were appearing for their juniors Narendar Singh and Shyam Sundar for mathematics paper."

According to Bah police, Brijesh and Hari were booked under IPC section 416 (Cheating by personation) and 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation).
Meanwhile, in Mathura going one step ahead to ensure full marks in mathematics paper to students, Mankameshwar Vidyalaya of Raya area openly allowed students to copy and cheat during examination.

When contacted to sub divisional magistrate Chandani Singh, she said, "Students were found cheating and copy answers openly in the school during examination. It seems, as if school administration was not prepared to conduct exam or intentionally allowed it."

"I have written letter to district magistrate of Mathura, to cancel Tuesday's examination and reconduct it at different center. Further, also ensure that no future board papers are conducted in the school ever," she added.

India leaves China behind and gets $1.6 billion project....

BHEL is set to sign a contract to build $1.6 billion power plant in Bangladesh on February 28.

NEW DELHI/DHAKA: State-run Indian firm Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) is poised to seal a contract to build a $1.6 billion power plant in Bangladesh, beating out a Chinese competitor in the latest commercial tussle between the region's two dominant powers.

After China's recent success in pushing development projects in Sri Lanka, a breakthrough in Bangladesh would be welcome news for Indian officials who have long fretted over Beijing's encroachment on to territory it considers its own back yard.

India believes Bangladesh is a part of a "String of Pearls" China is building across the Indian Ocean that stretches from Gwadar port in Pakistan to Djibouti on the African coast where it is building a naval base.

After years of negotiations, BHEL will sign a contract to build a 1,320-megawatt (MW) thermal power station in Khulna in southern Bangladesh on February 28, officials in New Delhi and Dhaka said.

China's Harbin Electric International Company Ltd, which has power projects in Iran, Turkey and Indonesia among others, lost the bid on technical grounds, said a Bangladesh official, speaking on condition of anonymity since he was not authorised to talk to journalists.

But Anwarul Azim, a spokesman for the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited, a joint venture set up to build the coal-fired plant, said BHEL was the lowest bidder.

The Indian government's external lending arm, the Exim Bank, has backed up BHEL's offer with nearly 70 percent funding of the project's costs at a soft interest rate of around 1 percent above Libor, the leading global benchmark for pricing transactions, an Indian government official said.

He declined to be named, saying the two sides were about to seal the contract.

On Friday, Libor stood at 1.13 percent for a dollar loan for a year.

"Exim is very positive about it, very bullish about it and looking to taking this forward," David Rasquinha, the bank's deputy managing director, told Reuters of the Khulna project.

It would be the biggest foreign project by an Indian power firm, eclipsing a plant already built in Rwanda and a planned one in Sri Lanka.

Officials at China's Harbin who dealt with the bid were not immediately available for comment.

But an employee in the after-sale service department said: "The company has been involved in many such tenders, it is very normal - either we win or lose the bids."

Second setback

India and China have stepped up bids for infrastructure projects in the region in recent years, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi pushing for a greater engagement with smaller neighbours after years of neglect.

The loss of the power project is the second setback for China, after Japan muscled into Bangladesh's port sector last year, offering 80 percent financing on easy terms for a seaport, barely 25 km from a $8 billion deep water port that Beijing was negotiating to construct.

The proposed power plant will have two units of 660 MW that will generate power for local consumption. Nearly two-fifths of Bangladesh's 160 million people do not have access to electricity, according to the World Bank.

The project, though, has raised environmental concerns, with activists warning that the movement of coal posed a threat to the nearby Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forests.

They said the government had acquired the land and pressed on with the power station even before the environmental assessment was completed.

"This will have a devastating and irreversible impact on the Sundarbans, its ecology and biodiversity," said Anu Mohammad, secretary of the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Power, Port and Mineral Resources.

"We need power but not at the cost of Sundarbans."

Bangladesh finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, however, told reporters recently that the necessary steps had been taken to reduce the impact on the environment.(TOI)

Someone is trying to threaten Sallu Bhai

An anonymous phone caller has threatened to kill Bollywood star Salman Khan, prompting the Mumbai Police to launch a probe, an official said on Monday. 

The phone call was made to the city's Police Control Room on February 16, police said. Police suspected it was a hoax call and launched a probe though no case has been filed yet.

Police has managed to locate the place from where the call was made. Not willing to take chances, cops have decided to review the 50-year-old actor's security.

Khan, who is riding high on box office success with hits like 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo,' is currently working on 'Sultan' - a film based on a wrestler's life that also stars Anushka Sharma in the lead role.

Nobody from Salman's family or office was available for a comment. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the actor in the 2002 hit-and-run case on the Maharashtra government's petition challenging his acquittal by the Bombay high court. An apex court bench comprising justice Jagjit Singh Khehar and justice C Nagappan told Salman Khan on February 19, that "it would be much, much better if he gets acquittal from this court as it will save him from all the repercussions".

Trump on Jobs...

WASHINGTON: Controversial Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has alleged that countries like China and India are taking away jobs from the US and vowed to bring them back for Americans.

Trump made the remarks while predicting that he will earn a "tremendous amount" of support from African-Americans.

"You are seeing the stories when African-American leaders are saying, 'my people really like Trump' because I am going to bring jobs back from China, from Mexico, Japan and Vietnam and India...and all these places that are taking our jobs and I'am going to bring back jobs," he told CNN.

"I'm going to do great with the African-Americans. African-American youth is 58 per cent unemployed. African- Americans in their prime are substantially worse off than the whites in their prime, and it's a very sad situation," the 69-year-old said.

Trump, known for being openly critical of many countries like China, Mexico and Japan in many of his speeches, had last month said India is "doing great" but no one talks about it.

Trump has a number of real estate interests in India.

His remarks on Sunday came after his emphatic victory in the South Carolina primary. The victory gave him two wins and one second-place finish in the first three primaries and consolidated his front-runner billing.

Trump also predicted that the presidential contest will be between him and Hillary Clinton and they will bring out the "greatest turnout" in US history.

"Frankly, if she (Clinton) gets indicted, that's the only way she's going to be stopped. I think it's going to be Hillary and myself," the real estate mogul said.

"They say it will be the largest voter turnout in the history of United States elections...we have such a low voter turnout compared to a lot of other countries so I think it will be the greatest voter turnout in history. If its Hillary against me, that is going to be a tremendous turnout...I am gonna win," Trump said.

The former reality TV star said he expects to win enough delegates to clinch the Republican nomination before the party's convention in July.

"I don't think we're going to have a convention, a brokered convention. I think it's unlikely. I think I'm doing better than that," he said.

Trump also laid out his own road map to general election victory, pinpointing two states — Michigan and New York — that he said he would sweep into the Republican column.

"I'll win states that aren't in play. I'll win states that Republicans don't even think of," Trump said.
